A Neo-Kohlbergian Approach to Morality Research

چکیده
Kohlberg’s work in moral judgement has been criticised by many philosophers and psychologists. Building on Kohlberg’s core assumptions, we propose a model of moral judgement (hereafter the neo-Kohlbergian approach) that addresses these concerns. Using 25 years of data gathered with the De ning Issues Test (DIT), we present an overview of Minnesota’s neo-Kohlbergian approach, using Kohlberg’s basic starting points, ideas from Cognitive Science (especially schema theory), and developments in moral philosophy.

Explanatory limitations of cognitive-developmental approaches to morality.
In response to Gibbs' defense of neo-Kohlbergian models of morality, the authors question whether revisions in Kohlberg's model constitute a coherent refinement of the cognitive-developmental approach. The authors argue that neo-Kohlbergian measures of moral development assess an aspect of morality (the most sophisticated forms of moral reasoning available to people) that plays a relatively min...

The neo-Kohlbergian model revises and extends Lawrence Kohlberg’s model of moral reasoning development to better reflect advances in research and theory. In moving from Kohlberg’s global stage model to a multi-process description of moral functioning, these modifications are most evident in the ways in which moral thinking is described, measured, and interpreted. This article highlights the two...

In many countries social pedagogues apply ART (Aggression Replacement Training), a multimodal programme designed to help juveniles with severe behaviour problems. The first part of this article offers a presentation of Kohlberg’s theory and some of the critique made of it. The second part describes ...

Kohlberg's cognitive developmental paradigm has been enormously influential, spawning hundreds of research projects in this country and around the world. From Kohlberg we have much for which to be grateful. For example, he was among the vanguard against the behaviorist majority who helped bring about the cognitive revolution. He helped bring American attention to the work of Piaget. He provided...
متن کاملA Neo-Kohlbergian Approach: The DIT and Schema Theory
"Macromorality" concerns the formal structure of society, as defined by institutions, rules, and roles. "Micromorality" concerns the particular faceto-face relations that people have in everyday life. Kohlbergian theories are most useful for issues of macromorality. The Defining Issues Test (DIT) derives from Kohlberg's approach but makes several departures, including defining cognitive structu...
